What inspired you to create your blog, As Told by Meredith?
I’ve been wanting to start one for quite some time now! My friends and my family are always asking me about what kinds of products I use and where are good places to shop, and I figured I might as well put that into something to help more people than just my loved ones. I tried doing YouTube when I was sixteen, and I realized that isn’t something I’m very passionate about (even though I love watching other people’s videos). I wanted whatever I was going to do to look professional, and I was never able to make my videos look the way I wanted them to. So during my senior year, I was toying around with the idea of starting a blog. After graduation, I thought: this is the time! I didn’t have too much going on, so I was able to do my research and make it look exactly how I wanted it to! I wasn’t going to half-ass anything. Although YouTube never worked out, blogging really is the best thing for me. I love to write and create, and I love being able to do that in hopes of helping/ inspiring others.
Describe your style in three words.
Eclectic, Bold, Alive
What has been your favorite part of running your own blog?
It makes me feel really empowered! I love having a space where I can do and say whatever I want. I think that everyone should at least keep a journal. Having some place physical to put your thoughts is really therapeutic for me. As a woman, I also think that the blogging community is so uplifting. I love seeing girls build each other up and support each other the way that bloggers do, so that also makes me feel really empowered.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
When I was in Africa on a mission trip in January, we went on a safari before heading to the ministry. We were on a boat looking at all of these amazing animals: crocodiles, hippos, giraffes, and elephants. All of us were taking pictures and freaking out over how cool it was. Our guide said to us, “Remember to look with your eyes.” That has really stuck with me, and I find it more important now that I’m blogging. There is such a draw to be on Instagram all the time, check analytics, see how how people are responding to your last post, etc., and I have been making a conscious effort ever since I started my blog to put my phone down and remember to experience life with my eyes not my phone screen.
What is your biggest blogging goal?
I mean I think every blogger hopes that their blog can turn into a business one day! It’d be amazing to have a job that I love so much, and if you love it, you never work a day in your life. However, my main goal is just that I help people. I started my blog for that reason. If one person likes what I’m doing, I’m doing something right. It’s so awesome to get feedback from girls saying how my posts helped them or how they can relate to them — that is also one of my favorite parts of being a blogger.
Who inspired you as a blogger?
I have a couple older friends who are also bloggers that I absolutely adore! Hannah Kerr (kerrageouslymade.com) and Andrea Lauren (andrealaurenblog.com) have been so amazing in helping me learn how to navigate this world! They inspire me because I feel as though if everyone was as kind and generous as these two, the world would be a much better place. Blogging could be really competitive, but people like Hannah and Lauren make it more of an uplifting world.
